Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Northwest Real Estate Bend

Bend Oregon Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices

Change is in the air.  The leaves have turned throughout Central Oregon, the Cascade Mountains are blanketed with snow, and winter is right around the corner in Bend. I also have a big change to announce.  My former company, Prudential Northwest Properties, adopted our new name on November 6th, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Northwest Real Estate.  That's right, Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway has put the brand behind the new HomeServices real estate network.  I'm excited for the change as new programs, technology, and tools are already rolling out.

“Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is a new franchise built upon the financial strength and leadership of Brookfield and HomeServices,” said…

Mt Bachelor Makes MSN's Top 10 List

Ski Mt Bachelor in Bend

MSN's "Top 10 Hippest Ski Areas You Rarely Hear About" article includes Mt Bachelor here in Bend. Roughly 20 minutes from Bend, Mt Bachelor is one of the only mountains that you can ski 360 degrees. In the past couple of days the ski area has received well over a foot of fresh snow, yet Bend has been dry. Another reason I love living in Bend! There aren't many places that receive as little amounts of snow as Bend, but have a ski resort 20 minutes away that gets a ton of snow every year.

CRUX Brewery in Bend

Bend is known for many things, it's sunny weather, mountains, rivers, scenery, outdoor recreation, lifestyle, and OF COURSE IT'S BEER!  The craft brew craze has taken over in the northwest, and Oregon is on the map for it's production of craft beer.  And we have some of the best breweries right here in Bend.  Lately, it seems like a new brewery is popping up every few months. Normally you wouldn't associate beer with tourism, but our breweries are getting so much national attention that people are coming in flocks to see the breweries in person. So much so, that Visit Bend made a Ale Trail Beer Tour, that includes a smart phone app.

Winter has arrived in Bend. Is your home ready?

Bend winter and mt bachelor

Winter has started on the high desert of Central Oregon.  While the winter in Bend can be mild, it's still important to get your home ready for the colder nights and days.  Water damage is probably the biggest concern over the winter months.  Below are some tips to get your Bend home ready for the cold season.

  1. Be sure to blow out your sprinkler system.  Most sprinkler piping is only about 6 inches under ground, and therefore will freeze.  Hire a contractor to come blow air through your sprinkler system to ensure that all the water is out of your lines.
  2. Inspect and clean your gutters.  Ice can damage gutters.  Be sure to clean your gutters before the snow and ice hit and inspect them for any…

Bend Oregon Ranked #3 Ski Town

Bend Oregon Mt Bachelor

Travel and Leisure magazine recently ranked Bend Oregon the number 3 ski town in the USA.  The ski town USA article states that "beer and snow go hand-in-hand".  And Bend has both.  It's vibrant downtown and many craft breweries contribute to Bend being a top ski town.  The article also mentions Bend's less than 12 inches of rain annually and Mt Bachelor's 400 inches of average snow.   It's quite common for it to be dumping snow on the mountain and be sunny in town at the same time, even though Mt Bachelor is only about 20 miles from Bend. The article also touches on the many other outdoor activities in the Bend area.

My Top 10 Reasons Bend Is One Of The Best Ski Towns

Mt Bachelor Open As Of Thanksgiving

16 inches of powder over night Mt Bachelor

Ski and snowboard season has officially begun in Bend!  After sitting out last year due to a knee surgery, I'm ready for some powder turns.  Mt Bachelor officially opened on Thanksgiving day, and I heard it was a great one. I was visiting family in Portland, so missed out on that first chair of the year.  But I'll be heading up to the hill the next chance I get. Hopefully the knee will hold up!

Check out the Mt Bachelor opening day video shot by Pete Alport. Enjoy!

Visit Mt. Bachelor's web page for information on daily conditions, lift tickets, and events.  The Dirkson Derby is coming up on 14th, 15th, and 16th of December.  This is a great snowboard event benefiting the Tyler Eklund Fund.  Tyler is a local…
